Canon 80D EOS Utility DSRL Camera in 2020, Is Still Worth it?

Posted on

As we know, this Canon EOS 80D Utility was the most famous DSLR camera in 2016. It’s been released to the public on 16th February precisely. For only US$1799, you, as a beginner photographer, can already get it. But, it was then, today you can get this camera for only US$999 or around. Of course, this price is neither too high nor too cheap if you wanna start a career as a photographer.

This Canon EOS utility camera is classified in the middle class. But, until today, there still many people using this camera as their daily driver or tolls to get a job. They are still using this camera are not without reason for sure. There’s a lot of features they offered too. That’s why. They still like to use it. What are Its features? Stay tuned and read it this article carefully; we will review all about it.

  1. Body Design

Perhaps, you would like to think that the physical design between the Canon EOS 80D and its predecessor, Canon EOS 70D utility is very exact. Right, I originally thought so too. But if you are keen on observing the details, there are a few points of difference, you know.

Looking at the viewfinder, the scope has been improved. Of course, now the main feature is that it has a wider coverage of up to 100%. And most importantly, this coverage also has the same quality for the viewfinder and the Live View function.

Not only that, but there are also differences in the dial wheel, side port, and live view lever. Not only that, but the EOS 80D also provides GPS, WiFi, and NFC modules. Camera compatibility with NFC will allow the EOS 80D to connect to NFC-compatible smartphones easily.

  1. Sensor

In the Canon EOS 80d Utility camera sensor, it’s been increased from the before generation, that is, Canon EOS 70D utility. The sector has increased from the 20 MP APSC to the 24 MP APSC. From the 100-1600 ISO range to be 256000. With the sensor of that, an amazing picture can be taken easily. Besides, Canon also gives individual pixel features, which can give a smoother image effect.
To record a video, this camera has been using ISO 12800 and be able to increase until 16000 or 25600. With this high sensor and also the sensitivity, Canon EOS 80D will work together with DIGIC to activating Dual Pixel CMOS AF for the live view proses.

  1. Image Procesor

By utilizing DIGIG 6, the resulting images are still very good for photos and videos. Its speed can still be relied upon to use high resolution even though there will be little noise in low light conditions at ISO 12800.

  1. 45- Point All Cross-type AF

One of the most prominent advantages of the Canon EOS 80D compared to its predecessor is the autofocus system, which uses 45 focus points with a type of cross that promises better speed and accuracy. This type of focal point can detect vertical and horizontal light patterns. It works well even with low light and is also compatible with many lenses.

  1. Power Zoom Adapter

This camera comes with an electrically powered zoom adapter, which is driven by four AAA batteries. You can adjust the PZ-E1 Adapter’s zoom speed by operating the speed mode switch and the zoom lever. This removable Adapter can help broaden your photographic reach, both when shooting still images or filmmaking. Users can operate zooming remotely using Canon EOS Utility Software and the Camera Connect application. So, you can use it when you take a picture from a remote location.

But, unfortunately, the PZ-E1 Adapter is sold separately with the purchase of a Canon EOS 80D camera. Because the PZ-E1 Adapter counts as one of the complementary accessories to increase the performance of the Canon EOS 80D. And what is unfortunate again, until now, this Adapter is the same as the KIT Lens, which can only be used on 80D cameras. That means, the PZ-E1 Adapter is only compatible with EF-S18-135mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS USM.

  1. Shutter Endurance

There is a high-power mechanical shutter on this camera. The speed can be controlled from 1/8000 to 30 seconds. Mirror drive on this camera is quite decent because it can allow for high speeds with low vibration. Also, there is also a silent mode for three fps. The shutter retention reached 100,000 exposure.

  1. Accessories

This camera is compatible with Microphone Shotgun. Canon EOS 80D is released at the same time with Shotgun Microphone DM – E1 that is compatible with any camera with 1/8 socket. Then, Canon also announced a PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter that can be mounted on an EF-S 18-135mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS USM kit lens to control zoom. And all of them are compatible with Canon EOS 80D Utility.

  1. Mirror Vibration Control System

There’s a mirror vibration control system similar to the Canon 5D EOS utility, which can help to reduce the blur effect due to shutter shock. Also, there are 7560 pixel RGB + IR metering sensors, which can also be found on the Canon Eos T6i Utility. The sensor increases the level of camera awareness for human subjects by tracking the viewfinder. However, compared to the 7D Mark II, the 80D does not have a Canon’ Intelligent Tracking and Recognition’ system (iTR)

That is a brief review of the Canon EOS 80D series. Although the increase looks mediocre, the Canon EOS 80D is still popular today and worthy of buying or using it. Like the previous generation Canon EOS 70 D.  Maybe this is also the impact of a more compact and lightweight body. This camera is best suited for semi-pro photo-videographers, especially those who currently have beginner DSLR cameras such as the Canon EOS 600D Utility, Canon EOS 700D, or Canon 60D and Canon EOS 70 D with some Canon lenses. Of course, there’s a lot of canon camera which still worth having this year. If you wanna know more about whatever canon camera in 2020, which is still working, we’ve been serving you also.
